Lily

It was a time of great duress when Lily came to me
A time when my entire universe seemed frightening as can be
Her love and her devotion was something I will cherish
Her timing was so perfect, her voice so sweet, so pleasant

Her golden hair was flowing down, her eyes so kind yet strong
Her determination never wavered, and for her voice I longed
She seemed to know just how I felt and comfort was her goal
The fear that often was so deep, the love within her soul

An odd match to imagine both fear and love a mix
Sent to me from up above, an angel here to fix
She often told me not to fear that all would be just fine
She knew how deep my love had been for that little soul at birth
And how much I would stand to lose if she was gone from earth

For she had been my angel from the minute I could see
Her tiny smile, her tiny hands, her love and warmth for me
I want to thank you Lily for all the times you helped
A school bell rang, my heart would jump, but you were always there
She will be out, five minutes more, a test so don’t despair

And sure enough, five minutes passed, and then she would appear
That little girl so cherished, that little girl so dear.
So I must say to all of you, that Lily is a friend
An angel and a confidant, a gift from up above
For Lily knows a mother’s heart is one that’s full of love.
